Four Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam are voting today in the third phase of the May 7 elections. The result will be decided for 47 candidates who will compete for victory in these four constituencies.

Among the candidates, six of them are women contesting for the position in the third and final phase of voting in Assam.

Everyone is very focused on the important Guwahati seat, where both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress have fielded candidates – Bijuli Kalita Medhi and Meera Borthakur Goswami, respectively.

Both Goswami and Madhi were among the first voters to cast their ballots in the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections.

Congress candidate Goswami, who voted at the Niravam Lower Primary School polling station, said after casting her vote: "I thank the citizens who showed up despite such weather conditions. I extend my request to the rest to exercise their right and pray to ‘Maa Kamhia’ that the situation will improve even more.

On the other hand, BJP candidate Medhi cast her vote at Guwahati Pub High School in Jyotingar. She said she sought the blessings of ‘Baba Bejarangbali’ and ‘Maa Ugratra’ before coming to vote.

“Now I will visit other polling centers and talk to the voters,” she said while calling on the people to come out and vote in large numbers for a healthy democracy.
