A woman in Arunachal Pradesh has filed a complaint against election officials in Changlang district for inaction on a man’s fake voter ID. The State Committee for Human Rights examined the matter. The woman filed a complaint with the Election Commission in June last year. He alleged that the Changlang District Election Officer and the District Registration Officer did not take action against the person accused of obtaining a fake certificate.
The State Human Rights Commission said it was a serious matter
The accused submitted a candidacy for the assembly elections from Bordomsa-Dion district in March this year, but his nomination was rejected. In response to the woman’s complaint, the State Human Rights Commission called it a serious matter. The commission said, the District Registration Officer of Bordomsa-Dion in Changlang District did not make any decision on the complaint despite the hearing on August 23, 2023. The Electoral Officer of Changlang District also did not make any decision on the appeal case for the hearing on February 15, 2024.
The Human Rights Committee also stated, “This allowed a person against whom fraudulent complaints regarding his voter’s ID card are pending, to apply.” He directed the district election officer and the district registration officer to submit a detailed answer. Along with this, he asked the election committee to explain within 15 days why appropriate measures were not taken against the officials.
The complainant alleged that the accused was living in Arunachal Pradesh without an inner line permit, which is a violation of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation 1873. The woman alleged that the accused fraudulently obtained the 2022 election certificate.
