Boston-based Chilean startup Live Green has created real breast milk fat through precision fermentation. This is reported by newfood, writes agronews.ua.
Live Green has operations in the US, Chile (where it was founded), Singapore and India (where its precision fermentation research facilities are located), and uses its proprietary Charaka AI platform and machine learning. It is a database of plant strains, proteins, Genes and microorganisms that allow you to find herbal and yeast alternatives to animal products, artificial ingredients or highly processed foods.
There are 10 million natural compounds and 450,000 plant species in the world, but scientists have studied only a small fraction of them so far. Therefore, Live Green decided to apply artificial intelligence to process big data and discover new ingredients.
So far, the startup has collected investments of 9 million dollars.
The breast milk fat that Live Green was able to create accurately replicates the nutritional profile of the real ingredient, as it provides 40-50% of the energy needed for the baby’s development.
“Fat plays a crucial role in the child’s development and health: it promotes assimilation of nutrients, supports the development of the nervous system, increases immunity, improves intestinal health and contributes to the well-being of babies,” the company says. and guarantees that the innovative ingredient will make it possible to bridge the amazing gap that exists today between breast milk and formula feeding.
Note that Live Green is not the only company trying to commercialize innovations related to the lack of real breast milk in infant nutrition. Earlier, Bill Gates invested in a startup that creates human breast milk in the lab. And the French start-up Nūmi even cultivated the cells of the mammary glands to produce real breast milk.
