An instrument landing system has become operational at the Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Through this, aircraft will now be given short-range guidance to reach the runway at night during bad weather and poor visibility.

Airplanes often have difficulty reaching the runway during bad weather or low visibility. Due to this, accidents often occur. To avoid this and guide the aircraft to reach the right direction and runway, an instrument landing system has been implemented at the Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

ILS is a precision radio navigation system that provides short-range guidance to enable aircraft to approach runways at night during poor weather and low visibility. Due to bad weather and low visibility, the flight schedules of many planes were changed. Due to this, passengers face inconvenience. At the same time, the airline also has to deal with financial losses.

Airport director Devendra Yadav said the ILS Cat 1 facility would facilitate the operation of aircraft during the night. On April 18, a private airline landed at 6:29 using ILS. Airports Authority of India AAI has been working on the project for many years, it has also faced many challenges like land availability, regulatory issues etc.
