Something surprising was discovered during the excavation work on Tuesday for the construction of a smart city in the capital of Goa, Panaji. A stone statue of a man belonging to Pauline missionaries from the late 16th to the 17th century was discovered during this excavation (Ancestors Rising).

It is known that three other statues of the same form already exist in the village of Tisawadi taluk in Siridavu. After the excavation, information has been given to the Department of State Archaeology. Currently, a team from the Goa Archeology Department has rushed to the excavation site and seized it.

During the Portuguese colonial rule of Goa in the late 16th to late 17th century, ‘Paulist’ missionaries attended St. Paul in Old Goa.

Archaeologist Varad Sabnis said that such statues were installed at various places in old Portuguese colonies like Panaji. The ‘Times of India; The report said.
