Ancestors Rise: Largest Ancient Sword Used to Fight Evil Spirits Discovered, 7.5 Feet Long! Achi-News

Japanese archaeologists have discovered a 7.5ft long iron sword and bronze mirror from an ancient burial mound near the city of Nara. The weapon known as ‘Dako Katthi’ is very large. But this giant sword was never used for self-defense, but instead was a means of protection from evil after a person’s death.

Researchers found the two artifacts while excavating the 1,600-year-old Tomio Maruyama site in November. The Nara City Board of Education and the Nara Prefecture Archaeological Institute announced the discovery on January 25.

“I was surprised to find this sword,” archaeologist Riku Murase of the Nara Archaeological Research Center told Live Science’s Tom Metcalfe. The sword was “twice the size of any sword ever found in Japan,” he said.

Like other Dako swords found in the country, this sword has a wavy blade reminiscent of a snake. Due to the size of the artifact, researchers initially found multiple swords placed next to each other, according to Japan’s ‘Kyodo News’.

Experts say the shield-shaped mirror was also used to ward off evil spirits. Measuring 25 inches by 12 inches and weighing more than 12 pounds, it is the largest of the ancient swords found in Japan.
