Ancestors Rise: India’s Oldest Temple Discovered! Achi-News

An ancient temple believed to be the oldest in India has been uncovered by archaeologists (Ancestors Rising). The shrine, found close to the Gupta-era Parvati temple and the Chaumukhi temple, is said to have been built by the Kalachuri dynasty in the 6th-7th century.

In a small village just 500m off the highway to Katni in Madhya Pradesh, a team of archaeologists discovered the shrine inside layers of bricks under two mounds.

The oldest temple in India
It is a site rich in history and less than 100 km from Khajuraho. ASI Superintending Archaeologist (Jabalpur Circle) Sivakant Bajpai said, “We are conducting this excavation with the aim of discovering India’s oldest temple.” The Times of India reported on this.

Close to Sanchi!
The town of Nachne is 400 km east of the historic city of Sanchi. This is another temple site from the Gupta period. It is considered as the oldest site in India.

The oldest known temples in the country were built during the Gupta era. Most of the ancient temples in the country are located in Madhya Pradesh. Sanchi has Temple No. 17, Nachne Parvati Temple, Tigwa Vishnu Temple and Bhumara Shiva Temple. Only Gupta period temples can exist here. Temples may be older than that. An official said that more digging will be done for the same reason.
