A family escaped injury after a fire, believed to have been caused by an e-bike lithium battery, set ablaze their home this morning.

Narraweena House on Sydney’s Northern Beaches went up at 4am today.

The neighbors said they heard a loud bang, which they initially thought was a shot.

“It was about 4 in the morning and I heard what sounded like an explosion, I thought it was a gunshot,” said a neighbor.

“I looked out on my balcony and all I could see was fire.”

The property did not have working smoke alarms inside the house, however no one was injured as the family managed to escape.

“There was nobody home, we had four occupants who self-evacuated,” Fire and Rescue NSW firefighter Tom Callaghan said.

“We decided to go with a defensive strategy, meaning we stay outside and don’t go inside.
