ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to issue an inquiry report on the allegations of rigging in the general elections by Commissioner Rawalpindi Liaquat Ali Chatta.

According to media reports, major progress has been made regarding the Rawalpindi Commissioner’s allegations. The ECP had set up a one-member committee to look into the matter under the chairmanship of Member Sindh Nisar Durrani.

According to the Electoral Commission, the report includes the statements of Regional Returning Officers (DROs) and Returning Officers (ROs). Commissioner Rawalpindi Liaquat Chatta also submitted a written statement to the committee.

It should be noted that the former Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali has announced his resignation from the post alleging serious irregularities in the elections.

Earlier in February, in a statement recorded before the ECP committee, former commissioner Chatta regretted his earlier ‘misleading’ claims that the recent elections were rigged, adding that He had made this claim at the behest of a political party . – INP
