The India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rain in many districts of Odisha. Due to low pressure in the Bay of Bengal, there can be drastic changes in the weather. Fishermen were warned to return to shore.

The India Meteorological Department has released information that the low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal off northern Tamil Nadu and southern Andhra Pradesh coast is expected to move northeast. It will become a depression on the morning of May 24. According to him, “Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over the southwestern Bay of Bengal, a low pressure area has formed.

The IMD has predicted heavy rainfall ranging from 7 cm to 11 cm at isolated places in Belsur district and moderate rainfall in other north Odisha districts from May 24.

Fishermen advised to return

The weather department has warned fishermen not to venture into the sea on May 23 and 24. He said the sea conditions were expected to be very rough. He also said that the fishermen who went out to sea should return to the shore by May 23.

The wind direction also changed

IMD said the wind speed in the southern Bay of Bengal may increase from 35-45 kmph to 55 kmph on May 22. Which will gradually increase from 40-50 km/h to 60 km/h in the center and near South Bay. He also said that from the morning of May 24, wind speed of 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph will spread to adjoining areas of North Bay of Bengal. It will also extend to northeast Bay of Bengal and adjacent to central Bay of Bengal in northwest and east by May 25.

Called the administration

Following the weather department’s warning, Odisha’s Special Relief Commissioner said in a letter to all District Collectors that during May 24 and 25, light to moderate rain fell at many places and heavy to heavy rainfall at several places in the districts. North Odisha has a chance of rain. He asked the district collectors to keep the district administration alert and ready to deal with any situation.
