Unionized workers at an Airbus assembly plant north of Montreal have rejected a contract offer for the third time.

The International Union of Aerospace Mechanics and Workers, which represents about 1,300 workers in Mirabel, Que. A fixer, says that almost 70 percent of his members voted against the agreement in principle.

Union spokesman Eric Rencourt says negotiators thought they had reached a deal that would satisfy members, but the vote shows that is not the case.

Earlier this month, workers overwhelmingly rejected a second offer from the employer, and nearly all voted in favor of a strike.

The proposed five-year contract included an eight percent salary increase in the first year, followed by annual increases of three or four percent.

Airbus has previously said that it is committed to reaching a new collective agreement that is fair to both parties while ensuring the long-term success of the A220 aircraft, which is assembled at the factory.
