Kanker: Another anti-Naxal operation has taken place in Narayanpur and Kanker districts of Chhattisgarh. 9 Naxalites, including three women, were encountered in a gunfight with security personnel in the border forest. A joint team of the District Reserve Force (DRG) and the Special Task Force (STF) conducted an encounter in the forest between Tekmeta and Kakur villages in Abujmad district.
This is the second major attack by security forces against Naxalites in 15 days. After an exchange of fire, the bodies of nine Naxalites, including three women, were recovered from the spot. The official said the identity of the slain Naxalites is yet to be ascertained. An AK-47 rifle, other weapons and explosives were recovered from the spot. A search operation is still underway in the area, which is considered a stronghold of Naxalites.
88 naxist encounters this year
Police said 88 Naxalites have been killed so far this year in separate encounters in Bastar region. On April 16, 29 Naxalites were killed in the biggest operation by security forces in Chhattisgarh. Twelve of the 29 Maoists were armed women, trying to protect the men.
Chhattisgarh State Congress chief Deepak Baij expressed doubts about the encounter of 29 Naxalites. Many innocent villagers have been labeled as Naxals during the BJP era. He demanded that the government clarify whether all the 29 people killed in the encounter by the security forces were Naxalites or whether some of the villagers were also killed.
