The district consumer forum gave an important verdict on the hospital’s negligence.

A patient suffering from cervical pain died due to negligence in treatment at the New Blau Hospital in Bilaspur. The young man was admitted for surgery. During this time, his health deteriorated due to a botched blood transfusion. This incident happened seven years ago. Now the consumer forum has blamed in this matter

In fact, Chhotalal Tandon (29), a resident of Nariyara in Janjgir-Champa district, father Bodharam Tandon had cervical disease. In 2016, when his pain worsened, he was referred to New Blau Hospital in Mangala, Bilaspur for treatment, where the doctors, after examining him including MRI and other tests, said he needed surgery.

Health deteriorated due to a bad blood transfusion

After the consent of the patient and his family members, the laparoscopic doctor Dr. Bereish accepted the young man for surgery on 12.29.2016. During the surgery, the hospital management announced the need for blood and contaminated blood was transferred to the patient.

The atrium was torn, the operation was performed again

Due to poor blood transfusion, Chotlal’s health condition started to deteriorate and his stomach started to swell, due to which his stomach burst. During this time the doctor operated on him again. And yet his health did not improve.

The team of District Consumer Forum member Anand Kumar Pandey and President Anand Singhal fined the hospital management.

The family members continued to ask for a referral
When the patient’s health did not improve even after two surgeries, the worried family members kept asking him to refer him to a bigger hospital. But the hospital management and doctors kept assuring him that his health was fine.

When his condition became critical, he was referred to Apollo Hospital on January 10, 2017, after which Chotlal died just 20 minutes later. Apollo Hospital said he died due to cardiac arrest.

A complaint filed in the forum for wrong handling

After the death of Chhotalal Tandon, his father Budhram Tandon filed a complaint in the District Consumer Forum in 2018. In this regard, the forum sought answers from the hospital management and the attending physician. He also ordered them to submit documents, including a release summary. But, the hospital management did not submit the discharge summary.

Order to give compensation of 10 lakh rupees within 45 days

Accordingly, District Consumer Forum President Anand Kumar Singhal, members Alok Pandey and Purnima Singh ordered to pay a compensation of Rs 10 lakh within 45 days to Chahot Lal’s family for negligence in treatment and lack of service.

If the amount is not paid within the stipulated time, a fine plus 9 percent interest must be paid. It was also requested to send a copy of the forum instruction to the State Medical Council, so that such negligence can be stopped in the future.
