Chandankiyari Chas SDPO Praveen Kumar Singh held a press conference at Chandankiyari police station on Saturday. He said that on the night of March 29, confidential information was received that some liquor smugglers were going to Jharia through Laghala pass with liquor on a bicycle from Bengal. Taking this into consideration, a team led by Saraj Kumar, who is in-charge of Chandankiyari police station, was formed and vehicles were checked just before the Laghala turn. Meanwhile, a person was coming fast from Laghala bend on a red bike (JH09 AW-8171). A white sack was tied behind the bike. The police signaled him to stop by lighting a torch, but after seeing the police, the smuggler started driving faster on the bike. The police chased him, but the smuggler fled, leaving the bike and the sack on the footpath leading to Kanchanpur. The police could not catch him because of the darkness. The police seized the sack and the bike and brought it to the Chandankiyari police station. When the sack was opened at the police station, 9 bottles of foreign liquor of 750 ml each and a total of 36 bottles of beer in three boxes were found in it. A case has been registered against the smuggler for further action.
