A Place in the Sun: Yasmin Herman’s Tribute to Johnny Irwin Achi-News

Sadly, however, she will mark the milestone without her great friend and co-star of nearly two decades, Johnny Irwin. Johnny died after a long battle with lung cancer at the age of 50 in February.

The duo presented their first episode “Place in the Sun” on Channel 4 in February 2004 and became close.

Yasmin told the “Daily Mirror”: “I am so proud to be part of a place in the sun for 20 years.

“It’s been life-changing for so many people and to be able to help hundreds of couples – last time I counted it was 440. It’s changed my life in so many ways.

“I met my husband (photographer) John on the show, we have two children, Joy, nine, and Albion, seven, now and I’m proud to be able to show people that anything is possible.

“but [reaching this landmark] It was also very bitter. I still have a very hard time even talking about Johnny. It’s still very raw.”

Jasmine is now trying to adopt Johnny’s mantra of living each day to the fullest.

She says: “Over the last 20 years I’ve had countless people who have had something that was a catalyst for them, whether it was bereavement, a health scare or some other trauma.

“It made people think that life is meant to be lived and that’s a message I’d like to say to everyone today. Not only from Johnny’s passing, but we’ve lost other family members and other friends. It definitely makes you want to make the most of every day.”

The move to Spain will reduce the facilitator’s travels and allow her to spend more time with her family.

The mother of two says: “We felt with the children that it was now or never. If we had waited until they were high school age, it would not have been easy. I feel lucky that I am able to give my children the opportunity to be part of another culture.”

A Place in the Sun returns to Channel 4 on Monday at 15:00
