YouTube is set to introduce an advanced song search feature in its YouTube Music app, which will allow users to find songs by humming, singing or playing them on another device. Initially the feature was launched in the Google Search and Google Assistant apps, later the feature expanded to the YouTube app. According to reports, YouTube Music is about to become the next platform to integrate this function.

Many of its music users have already gained access to the song search feature, which includes a dedicated button within the app. The feature appears to be available on both the Android and iOS versions of the app. However, since not all users have received the update, this indicates that the widespread rollout of the feature has not yet begun.

If you have the feature, you’ll see a new Song icon located next to the existing Voice search button next to the search bar. While Voice Search works as a typical speech-to-text search function, the newly introduced Song Search button allows users to find a song by singing or humming it into the microphone or playing it on another device. The latter function essentially allows users to use YouTube Music much like Shazam, allowing them to identify songs playing around them.

The addition of the song search feature to the YouTube Music app is expected to simplify the process of finding the song, especially if the name has eluded you. Previously, users had to navigate between the main YouTube app, Google Assistant or Google Search to hum a song, then return to YouTube Music to play it. By integrating this new functionality directly into the YouTube Music app, the entire process will be streamlined, providing a more intuitive and convenient experience for users.
