Police are investigating after a fire broke out at a former Boy Scouts of Canada camp in the Laurentians over the weekend.

The fire at the Tamaracota Scout Reserve on Saturday afternoon caused “total damage to the main office building,” according to a Boy Scouts Canada spokesperson.

No injuries were reported.

The organization fenced off the site in Mill-ÃŽles, about 20 kilometers northwest of Saint-Jerome.

A historic Boy Scout landmark, the camp and property have been closed since 2018 following “years of continuous economic hardship.”

According to Canada Scouts, many urban heritage buildings on the property needed urgent structural and electrical repair. A spokesman said a warden had visited the site five days a week since its closure for “maintenance and security”.

The property was offered for sale in 2023.

Police are investigating the cause of the fire. The Boy Scouts of Canada said they support the police in the investigation.
