A bus fire on an Alberta mountain highway kills children on a ski trip from the UK Achi-News

Dozens of passengers, including 48 children on a school trip from the United Kingdom, were stranded Tuesday night after a tour bus caught fire in western Alberta.

At approximately 5 pm, a tour bus fire on the Icefields Parkway was reported to Lake Louise RCMP.

RCMP, fire crews, EMS officers and Parks Canada responded to the scene.

Police said around 60 passengers were stranded, including 48 youngsters who were on an international school ski trip from Tonbridge, UK

All of the passengers were able to get off the bus safely, Lake Louise RCMP said in a news release Wednesday morning.

A local business called The Lodge at Bow Lake brought the passengers in until the bus company could send another bus.

The cause of the fire is believed to be mechanical, according to the police.

The Icefields Parkway is a highway in western Alberta that connects Banff and Jasper.
