The Montreal Police Arson Squad (SPVM) is investigating a “suspicious” building fire early Sunday morning in the Notre Dame de Grace (NDG) neighbourhood.
The SPVM said a patrol officer spotted smoke coming from a vacant building at the corner of Cote St. Luc and Robert Burns Street at around 4.30am.
The Montreal Fire Department (SIM) raised the first alarm just after 5 a.m. and responded to the three-story building.
The building was vacant and included a commercial floor and two residential floors above.
The sim said there were no casualties.
The police claim that the firefighters found elements that believe that it may be arson after they discovered that multiple fires had started in different places in the building.
Investigators will be able to analyze the scene once it is safe.
Significant damage was caused to the structure.
