55 lakh units of electricity stolen in one year in Bangalore! – News18 Kannada Achi-News

Bengaluru: BESCOM Power Stolen continues. Despite taking many stringent measures, 55.05 lakh electricity units were stolen under BESCOM last financial year and the authorities registered 4,788 cases and collected a total fine of Rs 21.29 crore.

A substantial amount of 2.72 crore electricity units have been stolen in the last three years. The Times of India reported that 14,356 cases and a fine of Rs 91.25 crore were collected during the period.

Here are the theft statistics
In 2021-22, 1305.55 units were stolen and 4,730 cases were registered. A fine of Rs 41.66 crore was collected that year. In 2022-23 there was a reduction of 86.72 in the units stolen. But the number of cases increased to 4,878 with a fine of Rs 28.29 crore. Electricity theft increased slightly in 2023-24. An official was quoted as saying that these figures highlight the ongoing problem of power theft in Bangalore, especially in business establishments and industries.

BESCOM has taken strict steps to prevent electricity theft. However, electricity theft continues unabated as BESCOM rules are ignored.
