51 PTI workers were sent to jail Achi-News

Gujranwala: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Saturday delivered its verdict against the 51 accused involved in arson and vandalism in Gujranwala on May 9, 2023, ARY News reported.

Justice Natasha Naseem Supra of the ATC court heard the case and narrated the allegations against each of the accused, identified as workers associated with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The judge sentenced each of the 51 defendants to five years in prison according to different provisions.

Earlier this week, an anti-terrorism court summoned Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Omar Sarfarz Cheema and other defendants on April 8 to file charges in three May 09 cases.

ATC judge Arshad Javed heard cases of attack on PML-N office, torching of a container at Kalama Chowk and burning of three police vehicles at Sharao Bridge on May 9 last year.

Police produced PTI leaders Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Umar Sarfarz Cheema, Mian Mehmood Ur Rashid, Senator Ijaz Chaudhry and others were charged in the court.

The court announced that the charges will be filed against the accused at the next hearing in the case.

The court has already given copies of the indictment to all the accused. The trial will officially begin after the indictment of the accused is filed in three cases.

The court adjourned the hearing of the case until April 8.
