4 notorious drug peddlers booked under PIT NDPS Act – Kashmir Monitor Achi-News

SOPORE: Acting tough against the drug peddlers/smugglers and to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, the police booked 4 notorious drug peddlers under the PIT NDPS Act in Sopore after getting formal arrest warrants from the competent authority.

The four notorious drug peddlers have been identified as Farwaiz Ahmed Khan son of Abdul Rashid Khan resident of Model Town C Super, Wasim Ahmed Hajam son of Muhammad Akbar Hajam resident of Doro Par Mohalla, Shehbaz Ahmed Dangru son of Ghulam Mohi-ed -Din Dangro resident of Machpura Bumai Sopore and Sharfatullah Shah son of Muzaffar Ahmed Shah resident of Alpura Sopore A/P Shalimar Colony Sopore were booked under PIT-NDPS Act after receiving formal arrest warrants from the competent authority. The booked drug peddlers were arrested and later lodged in Central Jail Kot-Belwal Jammu.

It is worth mentioning here that many cases are registered against these drug smugglers and they were still involved in the drug trade by supplying drugs to the local youth of the Sopur police district and other areas of the district. Despite their involvement in many FIRs, they did not correct their activities and were again involved in promoting drug trade by supplying drugs to local youths.

Meanwhile, the police arrested two drug peddlers in Kulgam and found excessive substances in their possession.

A police party of Qazigund police station during a patrol in Gulabog near Khatana petrol pump intercepted a suspicious person carrying a plastic bag. During the search, the policemen were able to recover from his possession 4.3 kg of poppy straw like material stuffed in the said bag. He was identified as Balwinder Kumar son of Mwa Ram, resident of Ratharwan, Pathankot. Further, the police party of police station Qaimo at the checkpoint set up at Naivasti Qaimo intercepted a suspicious person who tried to escape from the scene but was caught in tact. During the search, the police managed to recover 2 kg of a charas-like substance stuffed in the plastic bag. The accused has been identified as Gulzar Ahmed Alai son of Abdul Khaliq Alai a resident of Chanigam Chanpura, Prisal. The two accused drug dealers were arrested and taken to their respective police stations, where they remain in custody.

Accordingly, cases were registered according to the relevant sections of the law at the respective police stations and another investigation was opened.

“The general public is asked to come or call 112 with any information regarding drug dealing/anti-social activity in their surroundings and extend cooperation with the police to eradicate the threat of drugs from society,” said the police statement.
