Three people are dead and two others were rushed to a nearby hospital after a speeding vehicle hit a tree and landed on a nearby car in Fredericton early Sunday morning.
According to a release, Fredericton police said the fatal collision happened around 1 a.m. in the 700 block of Douglas Avenue on the city’s north side.
“It is believed that the vehicle in question was traveling at high speed when it hit a tree and landed on another vehicle,” the police said in a statement.
“The driver and the two occupants of the vehicle died on the spot as a result of their injuries.”
The police said that two other passengers were hospitalized as a result of the accident. One person is currently being treated for life-threatening injuries, while another person has minor injuries.

“The passengers of the second vehicle were slightly injured,” the police added.
Commander Martin Gaudet described the fatal incident as a “terrible tragedy”.
“Our heartfelt condolences are sent to the families and friends of the deceased, and to those affected by the accident,” he said in a statement.
“Our thoughts are also with the first responders who arrived on the scene.”
The police said that the investigation of the incident continues and more details will be provided at a later date.
