26 candidates submit nomination papers for five LS seats on the last day Achi-News

Guwahati: As the deadline for filing nominations for the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections ended today, a slew of candidates filed their papers, totaling 47 sets, in five constituencies slated for April 19 polls. The final day saw a surge in submissions, with a total of 26 candidates throwing their hats into the ring.

Among the 47 nomination papers filed today, the Kaziranga Lok Sabha constituency saw the highest number of candidates, with nine contestants contesting the seat. The Sonitpur constituency followed, with seven candidates filing their nominations. Khimpur constituency saw five hopefuls enter the fray, while Dibrugarh and Jorhat Lok Sabha constituencies had one and four candidates filing their papers respectively.

With today’s filings, the total number of candidates running in the first phase of the election stands at 38. According to election procedures, the last date to withdraw nominations is March 30, giving candidates a short window to reconsider their candidacy before the final list is confirmed.
