New Delhi: A media report has confirmed allegations by the opposition that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is acting as a “washing machine” for those facing corruption charges.

An Indian Express report said that since 2014, 25 leaders from other parties, which were under scrutiny by central agencies, had joined the BJP. What is more interesting is that 23 of these 25 leaders were acquitted in the cases they were facing investigation. While the cases registered against three leaders have been completely closed and the investigation in 20 other cases is pending or they are currently in cold storage.

According to the newspaper, ‘out of these 25 cases, only two cases of former Congress MP Jyoti Murdha and former TDP MP YS Chaudhary are such, where even after they joined the BJP, there has been no evidence of mercy.’

According to the report, the leaders who left their party to join the BJP in the face of allegations of corruption include ten from the Congress, four each from the National Congress Party and Shiv Sena, three from the Trinamool Congress, three from the Telugu Desam Party Two others have been included, one each from the Samajwadi Party and the YSR Congress Party.

“The list includes six leaders who left their party and joined the BJP a few weeks before the general elections,” the report said.

In this Express report, the names of Ajit Pawar, Praful Patel, Ashok Chavan, Himanta Biswa Sharma, Swaindu Adhikari, Pratap Sarnaik, Hasan Musharraf, Bhavana Gowali and many others are among the leaders who have switched parties in recent years.

Over the past few years, the opposition parties have repeatedly argued against the Narendra Modi government’s ‘misuse’ of central investigative agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Income Tax Department ( IT). has been raised.

Recently, the Chief Ministers of two states, Hemant Soren and Arvind Kejriwal, have been arrested by the ED ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Several other leaders have also been raided here and called in for questioning.

The BJP has been claiming that it is a ‘clean’ party and that all other parties are involved in corruption, but the party’s claim is being questioned after the recent electoral bond revelations.

Please note that the party openly gives tickets and presents as ‘star campaigners’ those leaders who have a history of allegedly being involved in corruption.

The Wire also published a list of state leaders who have left their party in recent months since the CBI closed the National Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction) corruption case involving Praful Patel A report has been filed. There, the accused in the illegal mining scam, G. Janardhan Reddy, has joined the BJP.

There was a scrolling report in 2022 on DE records regarding the actions taken against opposition leaders. He drew attention to the statistics and the circumstances under which the opposition was tested.

The report said, “If the timing of the ED investigation appears questionable in several cases involving the opposition, on the contrary, there is less urgency to act in the case of BJP leaders.” The Government data presented in this report shows how cases registered under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act have increased since 2017.

Another study found that since the BJP came to power in 2014, 95 percent of the ED cases were against opposition leaders.

A report by India Express revealed that the ED targeted 121 key leaders between 2014 and September 2022, 115 of whom were opposition leaders. The list has grown since then.
