Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s Rajya Sabha term will end on Wednesday. On this occasion, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, while recalling the contribution of the former Prime Minister, said that he will always remain the hero of the middle class and youth. Kharj wrote a letter to Manmohan Singh thanking him for his contribution to the party and the country. Kharj wrote in the letter that after serving for over three decades, an era is coming to an end. It was also said that very few people worked like you for the country. It was my good fortune to be a part of Manmohan’s cabinet. When I was the leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, you were the person whose advice I attached importance to.
“Being available despite the inconvenience”
Kharj said that despite personal discomforts in recent years, Manmohan Singh remained available to the Congress party. The former prime minister worked to promote an economic policy that is equally beneficial to large industries, young entrepreneurs, small businesses, the wage-earning class and the poor. He wrote that Manmohan Singh said that the poor can also participate in the development of the country and come out of poverty. According to the Congress president, because of Manmohan Singh’s policies, India managed to lift 27 million people out of poverty.
“The poor and the workers will always remember you”
Kharj told the former prime minister that the MNREGA scheme launched by your government has provided relief to rural laborers in times of crisis. Therefore, the poor people of rural areas will always remember you for this. He further said that when Manmohan Singh decided to advance the Indo-US nuclear agreement, it was a historic moment. Kharj wrote that I remember the then US President Barack Obama saying about you that whenever the Indian Prime Minister speaks, the whole world listens to him. He wrote in the letter that even as you retire from active politics, I hope you will remain the voice of the nation by speaking to the citizens of our country as often as possible.
