The Bharatiya Secular Front (ISF) has decided to enter the electoral fray alone. In such a special situation, it may be more challenging to wave minorities for the Congress Left alliance, especially as the BJP tries to capitalize on various issues like the Ram Mandir polarization and the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

Although there is some resentment among the people of the community towards the state government, leaders of the religious minority community believe that voting for Trinamool is important to counter the BJP. Various imams are likely to appeal to community members to ensure that the minority vote is not split, which led to the BJP’s success in minority areas in 2019.

‘TMC is the most preferred party’

Imam-eh-Din Qazi Fazlur Rehman said, ‘It should be ensured that the votes of the minorities are not divided. TMC is the most preferred party in most of the seats, while the Left and Congress are more suitable in some seats in North Bengal,” he said.

West Bengal Imam Association President Mohammad Yahya said minorities in areas like Murshidabad, Malda and North Dinajpur would face a dilemma in choosing the right candidate between the Left Congress and Trinamool candidates. Bengal Minority Youth Federation General Secretary Mohammad Kamruzzaman said, ‘In Bengal, TMC is the most reliable force to fight against BJP’.

Nobel laureate Amartya Sen’s Nobel laureate Amartya Sen’s trust researcher Sabir Ahmed said the TMC could get massive support from minorities because of its public welfare schemes.
