Many people argue that having manual gears allows more control while others say that automatic cars shift gears faster.
A chilling video showing a car narrowly avoiding a collision with a truck is going viral. The undated video, which appears to have been taken from the car’s dash cam, shows a car driving on a one-way road. At one point, the car slows down because another vehicle is parked on one side of the road, which makes the road even narrower. As the car slows down, another truck coming from the other side approaches the vehicle quickly. At first, it seems that the accident is imminent but then the driver of the car starts to drive back quickly. Once the car creates distance between itself and the lorry both vehicles come to a stop. The truck appeared to have some problems with the break which led to a delayed stop.
This undated video was recently shared on Instagram by a popular auto-centric account called Anti-Automatic. The text over this video reads, “One more reason to drive manual.” In the comments, the account listed the reasons why manual gears are best for such situations and wrote, “1. Stop faster 2. Reverse faster 3. Get higher speed in reverse.” Agreeing with this, an Instagram user wrote, “Half the fun of driving is shifting gears. Manual transmissions also have cheaper maintenance.”
However, several people argued that automatic cars are better for scenarios shown in the video above. They argued that changing gears manually takes time, while many advanced automatic cars have smart sensors that prevent collisions.
Making this point, an Instagram user wrote, “Not me. The rear gear of my old car always gets stuck. I have to try a few times before I get it in. I would surely be dead.” Another person wrote, “I’d be dead in my sequential manual for sure, there’s no way I’m going through 6 gears and flipping into reverse in that time.” Someone else wrote, “Manuals are generally better but if that was my car I’d be dead because most of the time I can’t shift into reverse immediately after stopping for some reason .”
In this debate about manual cars vs. automatic cars, some people shared unique things. An Instagram user wrote, “People are debating manual or automatic when we should be fighting EVs.” Someone else wrote, “Brother this argument is childish, just like apple and samsung, boys or girls, etc etc, grow up.”
