Mumbai (Showbiz Desk) 50-year-old popular Bollywood actress and politician Urmila Matondkar approached the court for divorce from her Muslim husband after 8 years of marriage.
According to the Indian newspaper Hindustan Times, Urmila Matondkar filed an application for divorce in a Mumbai court, court sources also confirmed the filing of the application on behalf of the actress.
It is not clear why Urmila Matondkar approached the court for a divorce from her husband, but according to sources, the decision to end the marriage is not a joint decision but the choice of the actress herself.
According to an Indian news agency, Urmila Matondkar married Muslim businessman, model and actor of Kashmiri origin Mohsin Akhtar Mir in 2016.
The two started dating just 2 years before their wedding in 2014. There is a 10 year age difference between the two, the actress is 10 years older than her husband.
Even before marriage, the actress took a break from showbiz, her last Telugu film was released in 2014, however, in 2018 she appeared in a Bollywood film with an item song called Bewafa Beauty.
Urmila Mamondkar acted in films as a child artist at a young age, she is one of the most popular actresses of the 1990s.
Urmila Mamondkar joined politics in 2019 after retiring from films, she started politics with Congress but later joined other political parties including Shiv Sena.
When Urmila Mamondkar filed for divorce from her husband, she herself did not issue any statement on social media, nor did her husband give any explanation in this regard.
