Local seed companies can grow and export seeds of varieties that are not registered in Ukraine, but are included in the list of plant varieties of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.
It should be noted that for this purpose, entrepreneurs who intend to import such seeds to Ukraine for propagation must submit an application to the Ministry of Agricultural Policy, which will confirm information about the plant variety and consent to the distribution of seeds from the country of the plant’s owner. diverse.
Currently, the Ministry of Agricultural Policy has already issued approval for twenty European varieties of hybrid corn, information about which is included in the list of plant varieties of the OECD. In the future, a significant expansion of the list of crops allowed for export is planned.
The procedure for importing into the territory of Ukraine seeds and planting material of a variety that is not included in the register of plant varieties of Ukraine, but is included in the list of plant varieties of the OECD, is determined by Resolution No. 964 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated September 8, 2023.
In accordance with the decisions of the Secretariat of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development of December 19, 2014 No. C (2014) 154, Ukraine expanded its participation in the OECD seed variety certification programs intended for international trade. In a special way:
• in the program for cruciferous crops and other oil or for spinning crops;
• In the sugar beet and fodder beet plan dated 12.22.2017 No. C (2017) 143;
• In the grass seed and legume variety certification program of February 16, 2022 No. C (2022) 44.
