Tumkur: The MEMU train has been started between Yeshwanthpur and Tumkur in Bengaluru and Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna has given the green signal for the new train (Tumkur Yeshwanthpur MEMU Trains). Tumkur-Yashwantpur MEMU (Main Line Electric Multiple Unit) train number 06521 was officially launched in a program held at Tumkur.

Train No. 06201 / 06202 Tumkur – Yeshwantpur – MEMU Tumkur regular services will run from Tumkur on 28 September 2024 and from Yeshwantpur on 27 September 2024

1. Train number 06201 (Tumkur – Yeshwantpur) operates every day except Sunday. Departs Tumkur at 08:45 AM and reaches Yeshwantpur at 10:25 AM.

Speaking later, V. Somanna called for a significant boost to the regional rail network. The launch of MEMU train service is expected to greatly improve the connectivity between Tumkur and Yeshwantpur. Improving local travel for daily commuters. In addition, he said, a ring and suburban rail system around Bengaluru would be implemented soon to ease traffic congestion and improve urban mobility.

An automated signaling corridor will be constructed between Araseikere and Tumkur at a cost of Rs 220 crore to improve safety and efficiency of train operations. The work on Tumkur – Rayadurga and Tumkur – Chitradurga – Davangere railways is progressing well. Somanna expressed confidence that it will be completed as soon as possible.

The newly introduced MEMU train is a major addition to Tumkur’s transport network. It is more convenient for city dwellers. It is also an affordable travel option for people. Somanna said that MEMU reflects the railway’s commitment to improve connectivity and promote socio-economic development of Tumkur and surrounding areas on the railways.

GB MLA Jyoti Ganesh, B. Suresh Gowda, MT Krishnappa, CB Suresh Babu, former MP GS Basavaraju, former MLAs Ningappa and Narendrababu, Bangalore Division Regional Railway Manager (DRM) Yogeesh Mohan and other senior Railway officials were present.
