Gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari died of a heart attack on March 28 at a hospital in Banda, Uttar Pradesh. At the same time, Abbas Ansari, who is in judicial custody in a criminal case, submitted a petition to the court requesting permission to attend his father’s funeral.
On Friday, Abbas’s lawyer told the bench of Justices Surya Kant and Sandeep Mehta that his petition could not be registered before the court on time and the last rites had already been performed. The lawyer said that he should be allowed to amend the petition and participate in the opening that will take place on April 10.
