Old idols can be found in some parts of the country, which can be said to have a history of thousands of years.

An ancient idol discovered by researchers

Researchers from the Odisha Division of the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) have discovered an ancient and ruined 4th or 5th century Hanuman idol in Patikota village near JITM on the outskirts of Paralakhemundi, Odisha. According to INTACH researchers, the idol dates back to the period when the ‘Mathara’ dynasty flourished near the Mahendragiri region and is more than 1700 years old.

According to his information, the idol lying under the tree is in a state of extreme neglect and conservation measures have been initiated immediately. Mathara dynasty rulers installed many idols of Hanuman, Shiva and Vishnu in and around the Mahendragiri region. It is estimated that 9 ancient Hanuman idols exist in Paralakhemundi and more than 20 in Mahendragiri region.

Kings used to worship Hanuman before the war

The current name of Patikota village was Parikutagada. Every ruler of the Mathara dynasty used to worship the idol of Hanuman before going into battle. Information is also known that Hanuman is also known as Paikaraya Swami for this purpose.
