The police arrest of actor Darshan was extended by two days; ‘Accomplice’ Pavitra Gowda has been sent to judicial custody
Bengaluru: A Karnataka court on Thursday extended the police custody of Kannada superstar Darshan and three of his associates by two days till June 22 in connection with the brutal murder of a fan of the actor.
Along with Darshan, the police custody of three other accused in the case, Dhanraj, Vinay and Pradosh, was extended.
The court also sent Pavitra Gowda, Darshan’s ‘partner’ and accomplice who is the first accused in the case, to judicial custody along with other accused, who will be taken to the Central Jail on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
Darshan, Pavitra Gowda and 15 others were arrested on the charge of murdering Ranukaswamy (33), a resident of Chitradurga.
The investigation revealed that Ranukaswamy was a big fan of Darshan and sent derogatory messages to Pavitra Gowda on social media. The victim was allegedly kidnapped, brought to Bengaluru, kept in a shed and brutally tortured to death.
Special prosecutor Prasana Kumar submitted today (Thursday) to the court that the four accused, including Darshan, are not cooperating with the police to locate the deceased’s cell phone, which is crucial evidence in this case.
Darshan’s attorney, Ranganath, said: “Surprisingly, the prosecution claimed before the court that they have an eyewitness to the case. They also claimed that the police should find out the source of the 30 lakhs of money seized in connection with the case.”
“The arrest request was not delivered to us. Unless the arrest request is granted, the claims submitted in court will not stand up. The judge noticed this objection and mentioned it in the order. We will transfer the matter to the High Court, and there is priority for the release of the accused when the arrest request is not submitted to the defendant’s attorney” , said Ranganath.
Sources claimed that on Wednesday, Darshan reportedly confessed to his involvement in the murder case, according to the arrest copy submitted to the 24th ACMM court.
According to the arrest warrant, Darshan gave 30 lakhs to Pradosh, the accused in the case, to manage the police and lawyers, and to pay whoever disposed of the body. According to reports, the police seized the money from Pradosh’s residence.
