The lives of three people in the state of Washington in the United States, the gunmen are on the run: the police
Police are on the hunt for a gunman who shot and killed three people in the western U.S. state of Washington on Tuesday.
The attack comes in the wake of two mass shootings in California that left 18 dead, and as the United States continues to grapple with the horrors of rampant gun violence.
Yakima police say a man killed three people overnight at a convenience store in an unknown shooting.
“This appears to be a random situation,” said Yakima Police Chief Matthew Murray.
“There was no apparent conflict between the parties. They just walked in and started shooting.”
Murray said officers were examining surveillance footage from the Circle K warehouse area around 3:30 a.m. (1130 GMT) after the attack.
“The first shot was inside the store. Then he came outside the store and shot the victim outside the store. He went across the street and shot another person.
“We have 3 confirmed fatalities.”
The suspect then drove off in a stolen car from a nearby gas station, Murray said.
Police initially believed a fourth victim was in that car, but later said they don’t think anyone else was hurt.
“This is a dangerous person and it is random so there is a danger to the community,” he said.
“We don’t have a motive, we don’t know why. We’re going to do everything we can to find and arrest the person.”
Located 100 miles (160 kilometers) southeast of Seattle, Yakima is a city of about 100,000 people.
The region is primarily based on agriculture, with the main crops being fruit and hops.
The Yakima shooting is the latest gun violence to rock the United States.
