Discovery of a 1300 year old idol
Local police in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir have found an ancient statue of Goddess Durga in Khag district. A team of officials from the Jammu and Kashmir Archives, Archeology and Museums Department has inspected the statue, which is made of black stone. In its findings, the team told the police officials that the idol is of Goddess Durga and probably dates back to the 7th century AD or about 1,300 years ago.

The left shoulder of the idol is missing
The statue is carved in black stone. The statue of Goddess Durga sits on a lion throne, the left shoulder of the arm is missing, the statue bears the influence of the Gandhara school of art, and the mother holds a lotus in her right hand.

This is not the first time that a Durga idol has been found in Budgam district. Earlier in September, a black stone statue of Goddess Durga was also discovered. It is estimated that the idol is around 1,200 years old. The statue was found when some laborers were digging sand from the river bed in Khan Sahib area of ​​Budgam district.
