The Dhanbad Lok Sabha seat has always been a topic of discussion. It remains a hot seat in this election as well. In the elections held since 1952, BJP has won 7 times, Congress 6 times and MAS 3 times. Once an independent candidate has won. The interesting aspect is that the unopposed Congress campaign was stopped in 1967 by Queen Lalita Rajalakshmi of Ramgarh. By defeating veteran Congress MP PR Chakraborty, Congress’ continuous winning streak was broken.

He nominated Congress MLA PR Chakraborty in Delhi in 1962.
