This is in from TNT color commentator Eddie Olcyzk, his look at the poor timing of Darnell Nurse’s pinch on the Oilers power play ending, one that led to a Dallas Stars 4-on-1 rush and Wyatt Johnston’s goal, making the game 3- 0 in the second period.
Basically game over.
“You have to understand what the situation is,” Olczyk said. “And it’s Nurse Darnell again. You know the punishment ends. He walks down and suddenly you have the Dallas Stars coming out of the penalty box, coming out of the defensive zone. That can’t happen.”
Nurse had a rough game. He had already been beaten on two cross-ice passes on Dallas’ first two goals. But this third goal was a difficult one, essentially a mental error at a key moment.
In the third period, announcer Jack Michaels noted, “I think the backbreaker was Johnston coming out of the box for the 4-on-1 following the Edmonton power play.”
Yes, indeed.
Some days you get the bear. Some days the bear gets you.
