Achi News Updates,

Mohali: Half-centuries from Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul and an innings from Surya Kumar Yadav saw India post 208 runs. India lost quick wickets in the early overs, with the help of KL Rahul (55) and Suryakumar Yadav (46) putting together a crucial third wicket partnership of 68 runs to take India to a respectable score. Hardik Pandya also played an attacking innings and punished the Australian bowlers to help India achieve a difficult score.

Australian captain Aaron Finch won the toss and invited India to bat in the first innings. Australia made quick inroads into the Indian batting line-up as Rohit Sharma lost his wicket to Hazlewood in the third over, trying to take advantage of the fielding restrictions. Nathan Ellis, positioned at deep square leg, flicked the Indian skipper. Ellis ended Kohli’s scrappy innings in the fifth over, staying off his seven balls.

Kohli fails to clear the infield, pulls a length ball to mid-on and spoons a simple catch to Cameron Green. Some eye-catching strokes from Rahul and Yadav ensured India capitalized on the powerplay. India ended the powerplay at 46 for 2. KL Rahul then teamed up with Surya to take the attack to the Australian bowlers, giving India the momentum they needed in the middle overs.

KL reached his fifty in the process, proving his worth in the batting line-up. The right-hander hit three sixes and four fours as Hazlewood was bowled out for 55 and India were 103/3 in the 12th over. Rahul’s wicket did not stop Surya, who sent the ball over the ropes twice in a row in Zamba’s next over, who continued to play brilliant shots.

India were 126/4 in the 14th over when Surya went to the pavilion. However, Cameron Green got the better of the batsman as he edged a rising delivery to Matthew Wade behind the stumps. Surya scored 46 runs off 25 balls with 4 sixes and 2 fours.

Axar Patel was promoted ahead of Dinesh Karthik but failed to make a mark as he was sent back in the 16th over at 146/5. Designated finisher Karthik failed to trouble the opposition as he tried to play big shots in the 19th over. Hardik Pandya took the mantle from Suriya and continued to play attacking shots, robbing the Aussies of runs whenever the Australian bowlers erred on their line and length.

Pandya scored an unbeaten half-century and was dismissed with 71 off 30 runs. The all-rounder hit five sixes and seven boundaries as India were 208/6 at the end of 20 overs. Brief score: India 208/6 in 20 overs (Hardik Pandya 71*, KL Rahul 55; Nathan Ellis 3/30) vs Australia.
