Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, condemned the alleged police action against the upper primary candidates who were protesting the delay in the nomination process. During this, the BJP leader supported the demand for counseling of candidates for the upper primary and completion of the recruitment process within the stipulated time period.

The BJP leader said the top contenders in the primaries are moving towards the West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) to seek answers as to why the SSC is wasting time on the appointment process even after the Calcutta High Court ordered it to complete the mother appointment process.

Suvendu Adhikari said in a post on X, “I strongly condemn the brutal police action against the high primary candidates going to the West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC). They sought answers as to why SSC is deliberately wasting time regarding the appointment process, while the Supreme Court of Calcutta has directed SSC to complete the appointment process of assistant teachers in state government sponsored higher primary schools within 12 weeks. He said he has been agitating for a decade. I support their legitimate demand for immediate counseling and completion of the recruitment process within the stipulated time.

Earlier today, police arrested several upper primary teacher candidates who were protesting in Salt Lake, Kolkata. Meanwhile, the Kolkata High Court has ordered the release of the teacher appointment list, which will benefit 14,000 candidates.

The court’s decision, announced by a division bench of Justices Tapabrata Chakraborty and Parthasarathy Chattopadhyay, directed the School Service Commission to publish the final list within four weeks. The consultation will be conducted after the publication. This decision of the court is expected to resolve the nine-year issue related to the appointment of teachers.

Attorney Firdos Shamim said that the School Service Commission had earlier disqualified the selection of 1463 candidates on the grounds of a mistake in the updated OMR seats. Now the court has ordered that these candidates should be re-included in the merit list and counseling should be conducted for the 14052 candidates currently included in the list.
