Delhi: Kerala has approached the Supreme Court against the President for refusing assent to bills introduced by the state. The state government has filed a petition in the Supreme Court with the President’s Secretary as a party. In the petition, Kerala said the central government’s policy of giving wrong advice to the President was wrong. In a rare move by the states, Kerala has now taken the stage with the petition.

Measures passed by the State Government in the Legislative Assembly have been submitted to the Governor for his assent. After keeping it for a long time, the Governor sent it to the President for approval. The complaint is that four of the seven bills sent to the President have been withheld. Among the bills introduced, only the Lokayukta Bill was approved by the President. No decision has been made on any of the remaining bills. The state has now approached the Supreme Court citing the delay.

Measures that limit the Governor’s powers have been postponed by the President without making a decision. It has already been argued that some bills, including this one, have been held back by the governor. It is reported that the state took such a step after discussing this with constitutional experts and lawyers. Earlier, the state government had approached the court against the governor in the process of stopping the bills from being signed.

The President is the highest constitutional body in the country. When it is said that it is a complaint against the President, it is considered that this is a rare petition in the Supreme Court itself.
