Hyderabad: The allegation of using animal fat in the preparation of Tirupati Laddu has created a huge stir in the entire country. Soon after Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu claimed that it was a mistake by the previous YSR Congress government, the inquiry began. CM Chandrababu Naidu exposed the lab report while YSR Congress argued that it was a pure lie and said that Animal Fat was found in the ghee used to make Tirupati Laddus. After reports that animal fat, fish oil and beef tallow were mixed with ghee in the preparation of Tirupati Laddu, now the temple administration is said to have set up a special committee of 4 members to check the quality of the ghee.

Formation of a Special Committee

J Shyamala Rao, Executive Officer of Tirumala Tirupati Temple (TTD) said on Thursday that the committee comprising 4 dairy experts including Dr. Surendranath, Dr. Vijay Bhaskar Reddy, Dr Swarnalatha and Dr. Madevan submit a report within a week.

He said that the committee will suggest the terms and conditions to be followed when buying quality ghee in the tenders.

Addressing a media conference at Goluklam Rest House, senior officials said that strict action will be taken if the contractors supply tainted and substandard ghee.

“Ghee suppliers have been directed to supply only quality ghee to TTD and a show-cause notice has also been issued to blacklist one of the companies supplying adulterated ghee as found in the NABL test report. Another company was identified for poor quality supply. he said.

Shyamala Rao warned that TTD would take strict action against ghee suppliers if they do not follow the terms and conditions of the tender henceforth.

What does the lab report say?

A July 17 report by the Center for Analysis and Learning in Livestock and Food was released on Wednesday by the Center-run National Milk Development Board, or CALF, laboratory in Gujarat. He was said to have found animal fat in the ghee used to make the famous Tirupati laddus. Ghee also contains traces of fish oil, beef tallow and lard, the report said.
