Monday’s solar eclipse was only partial in Saskatchewan, but with proper glasses the moon could still be seen crossing paths with the sun in the early afternoon.

In Saskatchewan, the eclipse reached about 41% maximum, with daylight appearing similar to when a cloud covers the sun in mid-afternoon.

(Gareth Dillistone/CTVNews)The peak of the eclipse in the province was reached around 12:51 p.m., with the phenomenon disappearing completely from view in Saskatchewan at about 1:51 p.m.

Saskatchewan last saw a partial solar eclipse in 2017, when about 70 percent was achieved.

(Gareth Dillistone/CTVNews)In Canada, a total solar eclipse occurred with the sun completely covered by the moon in southeastern Ontario and Quebec, along with parts of Atlantic Canada.

A solar eclipse occurs once or twice a year somewhere on Earth.

(Gareth Dillistone/CTVNews)The next total solar eclipse in Canada will occur in August 2044, with totality in parts of Alberta, BC and the territories.

At that time, Saskatchewan will experience a much higher level of coverage than it did on Monday, resulting in a nearly total solar eclipse.
