The owner of the tractor and the driver, who were caught in Doda smuggling two-and-a-half years ago, have been sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh each by the Court of District and Sessions Judge II Binod Kumar Singh of Palamu District Civil Court. For not depositing the fine amount, drug smugglers Bablu Singh and Satyendra Singh, residents of Tarshi police station area, will have to face an additional punishment of one year. On 14 September 2021, at 4 o’clock in the morning, near the Amanat river bridge, the Sadar police station had caught a tractor carrying Doda going towards Medininagar. The weight of Doda kept in 41 sacks was about seven fifths. The tractor was being driven by convicted Bablu Singh. After being caught, Bablu Singh had told the police the names of the tractor owner Satyendra Singh and Harjeet Yadav of Manatu during interrogation. The then officer-in-charge, Kamlesh Kumar, had registered an FIR against Bablu, Satyendra and Harjeet under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Harjeet Yadav has already been released by the court due to lack of evidence. While Satendra Singh and Bablu Singh were convicted under the NDPS Act.
