Silchar Police Deploys ‘Anti-Romeo Squad’ For Women’s Safety During Durga Puja Achi-News

Guwahati: Cachar District Police Persa A "Anti-Romeo squad" Basilchar to ensure that devotees and celebrants, especially women and children, do not face any hardship due to lumpy elements during Durga Puja celebration.

The members of the bike squad, including women, will be on duty 24 hours.

District Superintendent of Police Nomal Mahatta said that the squad had undergone training in unarmed combat for the past 15 days.

“There is a large participation of devotees during the Puja in Silchar and there can be situations where the women are exposed to inappropriate behavior by young men. The squad will be on duty 24 hours to ensure that they do not face any untoward situation,” he said.

According to him, the squad was deployed even last year and it was a success. “People appreciated the initiative and extended their full cooperation,” he said while hoping that the same cooperation will be received this year.

Durga Puja begins on Wednesday, October 9 and will continue until October 12 when it will culminate in immersion.
