This century marks his fifth in the World Test Championship (WTC), moving past Virat Kohli, Mayank Agarwal and Rishabh Pant to become the Indian player with the second most centuries in WTC history. Gill is now only behind Rohit Sharma, who tops the list with nine centuries.

The innings was not without its challenges. Bangladesh’s bowlers, especially their spinners, had their moments of brilliance, and the cloudy conditions made the pitch difficult to navigate. Gill, on the other hand, showed quick adaptation, relying on his straight bat and clear defensive technique. His ability to find boundaries at crucial moments not only added to India’s momentum but they also managed to give psychological blows to the opposition.

This century was particularly significant for Gill, coming after a string of impressive performances across formats. He not only helped India reach a commanding position in Test, but also cemented his place as one of the upcoming young talents in world cricket today.
