Speaking before the debate on Tuesday, Ms Robison was clear: “The Autumn Budget is an opportunity for the Chancellor to prioritize investment over spending cuts.”

Ms Robison said: “I am calling on the UK Government not to repeat the mistakes of the past, providing the funding we need for our core missions of ending child poverty, building prosperity, improving our public services and safeguarding the planet.”
He added: “I am prepared to work with the Chancellor to achieve this goal.”
His comments came after Ms Reeves used her speech to the Labor conference to try to strike a more optimistic tone about the UK economy after months of depressing messages.

A spokesman for HM Treasury said: “The Chancellor has been clear that the reward for bringing stability to our economy is investment and well-paid jobs that make every part of the country is better off.
“We have been honest about the state of the public finances we have inherited, but we are acting to rebuild Britain on the basis of our fundamental strengths, including our world-leading renewable energy and services sectors.”
