Responding to this question, Ajit Pawar faction leader Praful Patel says that after the swearing in on July 2, there was a meeting between Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar twice. During this time, Ajit Pawar tried to convince Sharad Pawar. Sharad Pawar was 50 percent ready but hesitated at the last minute.

On 2 July 2023, Ajit Pawar and Shrinu were sworn in as the Maharashtra government. Then on July 15th and 16th we met Sharad Pawar and asked him to join us. Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar then met in Pune. He said that Sharad Pawar was also up to 50 percent ready but he always hesitated at the last moment. Praful Patel further said that in 1996, if Sharad Pawar had agreed to HD Deve Gowda’s proposals and had not hesitated, he could have become Prime Minister.

The former Union minister said he accompanied Sharad Pawar to the first meeting of the Indian alliance in Patna. He said people from the indie coalition are meeting to take pictures. He asked if the opposition had any plan? If there was a plan then they should have presented it to the public. Also, the Indian alliance should at least say who they have who can take on PM Modi?
