Islamabad (Newsdesk) The Pakistan People’s Party has nominated Senator Yusuf Raza Gilani as the party’s candidate for the position of Chairman of the Senate, and the nomination of Syed Yusuf Raza was announced by the party’s secretariat.
Currently, Geelani has the support of 54 parliamentarians including 24 PPP parliamentarians, 19 from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN), four parliamentarians from the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) (MQM-P) and Jamiat Ulema-e- Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) also the possible support of five senators.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has the support of 20 parliamentarians. Geelani was the prime minister between 2008 and 2012 when he was expelled by the Supreme Court. After taking office, he started the impeachment movement against the then President Pervez Musharraf.
The PPP senator founded Swat University in July 2010. He also helped resolve the judicial crisis in March 2009 and developed nuclear power projects across Pakistan. He also served as Leader of the Opposition in Parliament between 2021 and 2022.
