GUWAHATI: Government of India Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, through the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), has announced the availability of scholarships for students with disabilities in their educational pursuits for the academic year 2024-25. The programs include pre-baccalaureate, post-baccalaureate and education scholarships at the highest level.

Students can apply online through the National Scholarship Portal at www.scholarships.gov.in or through the portal’s mobile app. The application link is also accessible on the official website of the department, www.depwd.gov.in. Comprehensive details about the programs, including eligibility criteria and application instructions, are available on the website.
To be eligible, applicants must have a disability of at least 40% and have a Unique Disability Identification (UDID) or UDID registration number along with a disability certificate.
The online application timeline is as follows:
- Applications for pre-matriculation scholarships open on June 30, 2024 and close on October 15, 2024.
- Applications for post-baccalaureate education and leading status scholarships are open from June 30, 2024 to October 31, 2024.
Scholarship slots are available for both new and renewing applicants. However, fresh applicants will only be considered for the remaining slots after processing all renewals.
Meeting the eligibility criteria alone does not guarantee a scholarship, as each year there is a fixed number of slots. In addition, 50% of the slots are reserved for candidates.
Assam Education Minister Ranuj Pegu took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to announce the scholarship.
